Chelsea-linked Josko Gvardiol admits Premier League dream
RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol says his goal is to play in the Premier league ahead of the Red Bull outfit's Champions League Round of 16 clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.
Gvardiol, a star of Croatia's Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign at just 21 years of age, was speaking to the Times when he revealed that both Man City and Chelsea were 'very interested' in his services in the English summer which will make for an interesting subplot at the Red Bull Arena when the Bundesliga and Premier League go head-to-head.
The centre-back is looking forward to the contest with Man City striker Erling Haaland, whom he previously met while Haaland was at Borussia Dortmund when Leipzig ran out 4-1 winners with Haaland nullified on that occasion.
"I think he's a lot better than he was in this game. We've already seen what he's capable of in the Premier League. I'm looking forward to the game," said Gvardiol.
Meanwhile, the Croat opened up on the transfer saga involving him and Chelsea and although he does want to leave he is happy at Leipzig.
"My agent called me and said Chelsea are very interested and of course you consider a serious offer from a big club like Chelsea," he said.
"Leipzig said they don't want to sell me. In the end, I really struggled with this decision, but we didn't reach an agreement. It is like it is. I'm here, and that's a good thing, because my idea was to stay here. One season wasn't enough. This is my second season, even another season would be great, but we'll see.
"I knew I still had to take a few steps before I could one day make it. At the end of the day, Leipzig is a very good club and I feel good.
"My goal is to play in the Premier League."
