Brentford v Tottenham: Predictions, tips and best bets as Spurs vie for Premier League resurgence

Ange Postecoglou manager of Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will be attempting to take their European form onto the domestic scene as they look to snap their seven-match winless run in the Premier League (Sunday, 1400 GMT).

Spurs are a funny club, aren’t they. Sacking Jose Mourinho before a cup final, giving Nuno Espirito Santo a mere five months in the job, sacking Antonio Conte after a poor run of results…

All three men are doing fantastically well with their own clubs at the moment, all while Spurs lurch from one league defeat to the next.

Ange Postecoglou is experiencing a bigger results crisis than the other three men combined, yet Daniel Levy has surprisingly resisted the urge of pulling the trigger.

This could mean one of two things. Either the Aussie has some shifty pictures of the chairman on his phone, or the Spurs suits are giving the manager a pass considering the humongous injury list. Probably the latter.

Brentford will be looking to take full advantage of Tottenham’s troubles when the Bees welcome their London rivals to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Here, we take a closer look at the fixture and pick out some of the best bets long the way.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Tottenham double chance

Tottenham got a much-needed reprieve when they picked up a 3-0 win over Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Considering the level of opposition, we’re not reading too much into that result. However, we are forced to go with Spurs on Sunday simply because of Brentford’s rotten home record.

The Bees have been shocking in front of their own fans lately, going five matches without a win and losing four of them.

Tottenham have avoided defeat in their recent trips to the Gtech and they haven’t lost away against Brentford since 1948.

Tottenham to score first

Poor Postecoglou was unable to fill his bench during last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City – a sad state of reality at Spurs at the moment.

Tottenham have picked up just one win in their last 11 Premier League games, but incredibly, they have opened the scoring in six of those encounters.

With that in mind, we’re backing that trend to continue away at Brentford.

Over 3.5 goals

Three of Brentford’s previous five games in the Premier League have seen over 3.5 goals, including the 2-2 draw with Man City a fortnight ago.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have seen a total of 16 goals across their last four matches in all competitions.

If that wasn’t enough to convince you, the over 3.5 goals bet landed in all of the previous five meetings between these teams.

Richarlison to score anytime

The return of Richarlison has come at a much-needed time for Tottenham. The Brazilian has already scored two goals in his last four games, with both goals coming in losing matches.

The 27-year-old is looking to strike for the third game in a row in the Premier League and at 9/5 odds he certainly offers good value.
