According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund have made a €35 million offer for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.
Borussia Dortmund have reportedly submitted a €35 million offer for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, as reported by Bild.
Despite the bid, Ajax are in no hurry to part ways with their Mexican midfielder, as Alvarez's contract with the Dutch club is valid until 2025.
It is anticipated that Dortmund's proposal will be turned down, as Ajax is seeking a fee of €45 million to €50 million for Alvarez.
The 25-year-old is the primary target for Dortmund this summer, and it is believed that they will successfully secure Alvarez's signature. The defensive midfielder is keen on the move and has preferred it over other offers.
Nonetheless, Ajax are open to alternative offers, as West Ham, winners of the Europa Conference League, are closely monitoring the situation. They view Alvarez as an ideal replacement for the departing Declan Rice.
While Dortmund are actively seeking to bolster their midfield following the departure of influential midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid, Alvarez would provide a different skill set compared to the Englishman.
The Mexican can contribute both in the midfield and as a central defender, potentially serving as an upgrade over the expected departure of Emre Can.
Alvarez's potential signing does not signify the end of Dortmund's transfer activity, as they continue to show strong interest in Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha.
However, if Ajax's demands for Alvarez prove excessive, Dortmund may consider Morten Hjulmand of Lecce for a more modest fee of €15 million.
