Borussia Dortmund look to Chelsea star to fill Jude Bellingham gap

Conor Gallagher

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has emerged as a potential target for Borussia Dortmund following the sale of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid.

The departure of Bellingham - alongside that of Mahmoud Dahoud and Raphael Guerreiro - has increased the need for Borussia Dortmund to strengthen in midfield.

SportBILD reported on Wednesday that Gallagher is in the mix alongside Ajax's Edson Alvarez and Wolfsburg's Felix Nmecha.

Gallagher would particularly appeal due to his versatility across the middle of the park, having made 45 appearances for the Blues in the number six, eight and ten positions.

However, the magazine points out that any transfer fee for Gallagher is likely to exceed that of 25-year-old Alvarez and would also be a club record for Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, it is reported that 22-year-old Nmecha would cost about half as much.
Gallagher has been linked with a move to Brighton in recent weeks, but has recently spoken of his desire to remain at Chelsea. However, it has been a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge and the club may wish to offload the 23-year-old and bring in reinforcements themselves.

The England international has two years left on his contract in west London and with a new manager at the club, a move is certainly possible.
