Beto promises Everton fans he will 'take them higher'
Beto has assured the Everton fans that he will continue giving his all for the club after his heroics in the Carabao Cup win against Doncaster.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin so often injured and no regular goalscorer to back him up, the Toffees forked out a reported £25.75million to sign the Portugal striker from Udinese.
Beto completed his move on Tuesday and only received clearance to play against Doncaster on the morning of a second-round tie that threatened to end in humiliation at the Football League's bottom side.
Everton were fortunate not be further behind than a Joe Ironside goal at the break, when Sean Dyche turned to Beto as part of a triple substitution that sparked a turnaround.
The 25-year-old smartly levelled with the Toffees' first goal of the season during a 45-minute run out that ended in a late 2-1 win thanks to Arnaut Danjuma's strike.
"It's great for me, wow," Beto said, holding the man-of-the-match trophy. "I just came in, it was my first game and (the fans are) already singing 'Beto, Beto, Beto'.
"This is unbelievable. I just want to promise them I will do whatever it takes to take them higher.
"I can't promise goals, but I can promise effort. That's my number one weapon."
Beto is the first Everton player to score on his debut since Richarlison five years ago and will surely make his first start back in South Yorkshire at Sheffield United on Saturday lunchtime.
"I'm really happy to score on my debut and help the team win the game," he told club media. "I am looking forward to playing the next games and playing with my new team-mates. To keep winning.
"I know the Premier League is another level, the best league in the world. I want to get ready for that."
While Beto and Everton prepare to face the Blades, Rovers are looking to build on a performance that belied their place at the foot of Sky Bet League Two at home to Swindon this weekend.
"The first goal was a sickener for us," Doncaster boss Grant McCann said after the Eco-Power Stadium thriller. "From their point of view, it was an excellent goal. The second one was avoidable for us, though.
"But my overriding thoughts at the minute are that I was really pleased with the lads, they went toe-to-toe with a very good side."
