Bayern Munich set World Cup record as majority of squad arrives in Qatar

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have set a new World Cup record after sending a total of 17 players for the Qatar-based tournament.
The Bavarians have edged previous record holders Manchester City and the South Korean Seoul Army Club who both sent 16 players in 2018 and 1954 respectively.
There are seven Bayern players in Germany's squad alone. Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala will all be looking to make their mark with Die Mannschaft.
Germany have been drawn in Group E of the World Cup alongside Spain, Costa Rica and Japan.
The four-time champions endured a nightmare tournament in 2018 after being dumped out in the group stage.
Manager Hansi Flick was the assistant to former boss Joachim Low during their 2014 World Cup triumph. The 57-year-old will be looking to replicate the winning formula in Qatar when Germany kick off their campaign against Japan on Wednesday.
France boast four Bayern stars in their squad, with Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman in action for the defending champions.
The Bundesliga giants also have one representative playing for Canada, Morocco, Croatia, Cameroon, Senegal and the Netherlands.
Manchester City and Barcelona both came close to matching the record with 16 representatives each.
Qatari club Al-Sadd SC has sent 15 players to the World Cup, and they're followed by Man United (14), Real Madrid (13), Chelsea (12) and Al-Hilal Saudi FC (12).
PSG, Juventus, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Ajax and Dortmund have all sent 11 of their players to the tournament.
