Barcelona could sell Ousmane Dembele to Paris Saint-Germain
Ousmane Dembele could find himself at PSG after his injury-riddled spell with Barcelona.
Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly engaged in discussions with Barcelona regarding the potential signing of Ousmane Dembele.
In 2017, the now 26-year-old became one of the most expensive players globally when he moved from Borussia Dortmund to Camp Nou for an initial £90million.
However, his time in Spain has been marred by numerous injury problems, resulting in just 127 appearances in La Liga over six seasons, averaging slightly over 21 games per campaign. Furthermore, he has never scored more than eight league goals in a single season.
Despite these challenges, Barcelona aimed to extend Dembele's two-year contract that he signed in July 2022, amidst previous rumors of a potential departure from the club. However, negotiations have encountered difficulties, reigniting PSG's long-standing interest in the player.
Sources confirm that PSG and Barcelona have initiated contact to explore a potential deal for Dembele.
His current contract includes a release clause, which would allow him to be available for as little as £42.9million until July 31.
Beyond that date, the fee would increase to £85.7million. However, given his injury history, it is unlikely that Barcelona could command such a sum.
While discussions for a contract extension at Camp Nou are ongoing, Barcelona are open to selling Dembele for the right price.
The club are facing financial challenges, prompting them to make Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres, both wing players, available for transfer this summer in an effort to generate funds.
