Wednesday's Champions League bet builder involves Ollie Watkins, Hans Vanaken, and a bundle of goals at Villa Park.

Aston Villa will host Club Brugge in a Champions League round of 16 tie at Villa Park on Wednesday, as Unai Emery’s side look to preserve their 3-1 first-leg lead.

Nicky Hayen’s visitors won’t shy away from the challenge and pose enough of a threat to claw themselves back into the contest.

They ruthlessly dispatched Atalanta in the previous round, winning 2-1 at home before extending their lead with a 3-1 win in Bergamo.

They’ve got the tools to make Villa pay for any complacency and we’re confident they can help us secure a winning bet builder this evening.

Today’s crack at glory is priced at 8/1 with Betway at the time of writing.

Aston Villa v Club Brugge betting preview

An obvious starting point feels like both teams to score. It landed in each of the Belgian side's games against Atlanta and the first leg versus Aston Villa.

They have to find a way to pose enough of a threat to score at least two goals to extend their stay in the competition, which also leaves them vulnerable at the other end.

As much as Villa are likely to find a goal, you can’t rely on their defence to keep a clean sheet. They’ve conceded to the previous nine Premier League or European visitors to Villa Park.

For that reason, we think we can push the boat out and ask these sides to net us three goals.

There will inevitably be moments in the game where it looks more like the Lakers against the Clippers than a football match, so it feels like a good opportunity to exploit the player shots market.

Hans Vanaken has scored nine and assisted nine for Brugge this season, so he’s likely to be the driving force. He’s also fired off 45 shots and hit the target 27 times in 28 starts.

Likewise, Ollie Watkins will be at the forefront of Villa’s best moments. He’s averaging 3.14 strikes per game and testing the keeper with 1.48 of them.

Last but not least, we’ll include the over 2.5 cards market. There have been 586 cards shown across 144 since qualification began, making for an average of 4.07 per match.

When you factor in the gravity of the situation, and the potential for frustration if Villa let a lead slip, or Brugge crash out, it’s easy to see the referee dishing out plenty of cards in the second half.
