Angel Correa called up to Argentina World Cup squad as late injury replacement

Angel Correa for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa has been called up as a late addition to the Argentina World Cup squad after Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzales was forced to withdraw because of injury.

The Argentina Football Association confirmed the news on Thursday and it comes just a few days out from the beginning of the tournament.
Correa has struggled to break into the Albiceleste starting lineup with the likes of Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala and Julian Alvarez overshadowing him.
The Atleti goal-finder has three goals from 22 caps for his country and will be delighted to have booked a last-minute spot on the plane to Qatar.
The other player who has been forced to pull out through injury from the Argentina squad is Angel's namesake Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correra. However, no replacement has been called up to replace the latter as of yet.
The Copa America champions have been pooled in Grou C with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
