Andre Onana: Teenage defender Leny Yoro a shrewd signing for Man Utd

Leny Yoro

Manchester United have recently raised eyebrows by investing £52million in Leny Yoro, a teenage defender, but Andre Onana has faith in the youngster.

Concerns have been expressed regarding the substantial outlay for a relatively inexperienced player, but Onana is convinced that Yoro will provide value for money.

"When you have the opportunity to be a Manchester United player that's when you have a lot of quality," Onana told Sky Sports.

"He already showed this in the first half. Great guy, very young player. Good on the ball. We will enjoy him this season.

"We are here to help him, no matter what is going on. Us as leaders, he's a young player, we're going to give him time.

"He's going to be alright because we have very good scouts here, so if they made him come that means he has a lot of quality."

Onana's confidence is bolstered by Manchester United's reputedly excellent scouting network.

Yoro, who previously played for Lille in France, caught the eye of Manchester United scouts with his impressive performances.

His debut for Manchester United came in a 2-0 friendly victory over Rangers, where he showed glimpses of his potential.

The upcoming pre-season tour to the United States will be crucial for Yoro as he seeks to integrate into the team and prove his worth.

Manchester United have scheduled high-profile matches against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool, which will offer further opportunities for the young defender to demonstrate his capabilities.

Andre Onana, who is looking forward to the 2024-25 campaign, expressed his excitement about the new additions to the squad.

He believes that the arrival of talented players like Yoro will strengthen the team as they aim for more success under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag.

Last season, Erik ten Hag secured his first piece of silverware as Manchester United's manager, leading the team to victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The triumph marked a significant milestone for Ten Hag and has set high expectations for the upcoming season.
