The Six Euro 2020 stars Southgate should ditch, with Trippier one of the first to go

Manchester United's Mason Greenwood looks likely to be recalled for England's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, alongside Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, with the duo set to join the group, Gareth Southgate faces some difficult decisions as he is forced to trim a squad which served him so well at the Euros.

Thankfully, Planet Sport are here to offer a helping hand, picking out six players Southgate should ditch ahead of the upcoming qualifiers.

Conor Coady

The Wolves centre-back didn't manage a minute in the summer tournament and is clearly low down in Southgate's pecking order.

Furthermore, Coady's Wolves are yet to pick up a point in the league after back-to-back 1-0 losses against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Frankly, Southgate is better off introducing a young and exciting centre-back to the fold rather than simply filling numbers with Coady who, if he can't break into the starting line-up by the age of 28, never will.

Ben White

Another defender we can happily cut from the squad is Ben White, who also failed to make an appearance in Euro 2020.

The former Brighton defender was very much an afterthought then anyway, called up only after Alexander-Arnold was ruled out through injury.

His £50million move to Arsenal hasn't helped his cause, either.

On his debut against Brentford he looked well off the pace and was positively leaking chances.

White has missed Arsenal's recent clashes against Chelsea and West Brom with illness, which at least spares Southgate the bother of calling him to drop him.  

Sam Johnstone

Heading into Euro 2020, almost every England fan knew Jordan Pickford would be the nailed on No. 1 and the rest are much of a muchness. 

With Burnley's Nick Pope available again we can easily do without Johnstone. We'd get rid of Aaron Ramsdale, too. England will barely need one keeper in the forthcoming qualifiers, let alone three.

Marcus Rashford

The Manchester United winger is unlikely to be fit for the clashes after undergoing surgery on his shoulder following the Euros.

He was recently spotted returning to training with the Red Devils, but it's not the right time to be including Rashford in the England set-up.

And until he shakes off the loss of confidence that afflicted him towards the end of 2020/21, we're not sure when it ever will be.

Kieran Trippier

It's about time we let go of his 2018 free-kick against Croatia. The 30-year-old was a somewhat surprise call-up for the Euros, and his start at left-back in the opening game was even more shocking.

His summer call-up was part reward for his part in Atletico Madrid's La Liga title, but with Diego Simeone now preferring Marcos Llorente at right wing-back, Trippier is lacking game-time.

And, with Reece James shining for Chelsea, it's time to put Trippier out to pasture.

Ben Chilwell

Another full-back we can quite happily do without is Chelsea's Ben Chilwell, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel has leaned towards Marcos Alonso as his starting wing-back, putting Chilwell's England position in doubt.

But, with Luke Shaw showing no signs of slowing down, Chilwell isn't such a loss.
