Planet Sport journalists predict contrasting fortunes for Scotland and Wales at Euro 2020

Wales will be out to repeat their heroics of five years ago at Euro 2020 - but it's another of the home Nations, Scotland, who our Planet Sport journalists expect to be this summer's surprise package.

Wales reached the semi-finals at Euro 2016, losing to eventual winners Portugal, but neither Scott Allen nor Pete Farries are too confident about their chances at this tournament.
"They've got no momentum," Pete said on the Planet Sport Euro 2020 Preview Show.

"Last time they went into the Euros with huge momentum; this time they don't have it and I think they're going to really struggle."

Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen were all at the peak of their powers back in 2016, but Scott does not believe they have the same star quality this time around.

"He (Bale) is not the player he was, and this is why I think Wales might tank," Scott said.

"They've had their glory with the Euros last time round.

"Aaron Ramsey doesn't play a lot, he's in and out, and they've got the Giggs stuff hanging around which isn't great for a team dynamic so I don't think they're going to do well I'm afraid, especially in that group.

Both Pete and Scott are much more optimistic about Scotland's chances, however, in Group D with England.

"It's going to be tough for them, but this is the best squad Scotland have had for a long time," Pete said.
"You look at the two left-backs they've got who are phenomenal. Even youngsters like Jack Hendry, who's had an amazing time in Belgium and been voted the best non-Belgian footballer in the league this year.
"There is some real talent in that side. This is the best Scotland side for a very long time."
Scott went one step further, adding: "I think they can be this year's Iceland. They're not under pressure, they've got a couple of home games, it's all good. I think they could surprise a few people."
Comedian Iain Stirling, meanwhile, also appeared on the Planet Sport Euro 2020 Preview Show to recall his previous best memory of Scotland at a Euros, when they nearly didn't go out at the group stage.
