Australian Open 2025: Free tips, odds, predictions, preview, round schedule, prize money and where to watch

Italy's Jannik Sinner kisses the victor's trophy after winning the men's singles title at the Australian Open

The first Grand Slam of the new year is upon us as Melbourne Park prepares to host the 113th edition of the Australian Open, and the first round starts on Sunday, January 12.

Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka both return to the event as they look to defend their men’s and women’s singles titles. However, those aren’t the only talking points.

For Sinner, this is an opportunity to restore some respectability following a high-profile doping case. The same goes for top contender in the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek.

Home fans will also be excited to see the return of Nick Kyrgios who has been battling an injury for the last 18 months.

Carlos Alcaraz will be looking to complete a Career Grand Slam and become the youngest player to achieve that in the Open Era.

Over in the women’s draw, Sabalenka will be eyeing up her third Aussie Open title. She would become the first woman since Martina Hingis in 1999 to win three straight titles in Melbourne.

The number one spot in the world rankings is also on the line as Sabalenka, Swiatek and Coco Gauff set their sights on the top.

Meanwhile, the most successful player in tennis history Novak Djokovic will be vying to bag a record-breaking 11th Australian Open title and a record-extending 25th major crown.

Australian Open - Men’s singles winner odds

Jannik Sinner – 6/4

Carlos Alcaraz – 3/1

Novak Djokovic – 4/1

Alexander Zverev 10/1

Daniil Medvedev – 14/1

Who will win the Australian Open men’s singles title?

Looking at the men’s competition, it’s hard to look past Sinner.

Since claiming the Australian Open title 12 months ago, the 23-year-old went on to reach the French Open semi-final, Wimbledon quarter-final and won the US Open.

On top of all that, Sinner has been involved in a high-profile doping case after testing positive for banned anabolic steroid Clostebol.

Off-the-court matters could certainly have an impact on a player, but could they really impact someone like Sinner? After all, the Italian enjoyed a strong end to 2024, winning the Davis Cup with Italy and completing the entire season without a single straight-set defeat.

One man determined to take the title away from Sinner is Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard already has two Wimbledon titles, one US Open and one French Open to his name. The only thing missing is the grand prize in Melbourne.

The furthest that the 21-year-old has gone in the tournament is a quarter-final run back in 2024.

Despite his previous issues with the Australian government, Novak Djokovic is expected to receive a warm welcome.

The 37-year-old is at the stage of his career where he is no longer the frontrunner for the title but still remains a dangerous contender.

Dokovic won his first Australian Open back in 2008 and currently has ten such trophies on his cabinet.

An 11th crown would take him level with current leader Margaret Court. Trouble is, Djokovic failed to win a single ATP tournament in 2024 – something that hasn’t happened since 2005.

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev are two other men who will likely run Sinner close for the title.

However, if we are to back one man, the Italian is the one to pick. Sinner is the in-form man in tennis and despite all of his doping-related issues, his performances have remained world class.

Australian Open - Women's singles winner odds

Aryna Sabalenka – 9/4

Coco Gauff – 4/1

Iga Swiatek – 4/1

Elena Rybakina – 7/1

Qinwen Zheng – 16/1

Who will win the Australian Open women’s singles title?

Aryna Sabalenka is head and shoulders above the rest according to the bookmarkers. The Belarusian player is currently priced at 9/4 to defend her crown while her main two challengers are all the way back on 4/1.

Two of Sabalenka’s three Grand Slam titles have come in Melbourne with the 26-year-old now looking to make it an Australian hat-trick.

No woman this century has won three straight Australian Open titles, with Martina Hingis last completing the treble in 1999.

Coco Gauff is expected to be hot on her heels as the 20-year-old looks to continue her improving form at the event.

The American went out in the first round back in 2022, the fourth round in 2023 and reached the semi-final last year.

Iga Swiatek is also looking to claim her maiden Australian Open crown. The Pole went out relatively early in her previous two appearances, with her best run at Melbourne coming in 2022 when she reached the semi-final.

Elena Rybakina and Qinwen Zheng close out the top five betting favourites and they are expected to go a long way in Melbourne.

Sabalenka looks to be in the strongest position out of the five names. She also knows this event like the back of her hand.

However, with Gauff constantly improving and heading to Melbourne on the back of an impressive United Cup win, we’re backing the American to lift the trophy.
