Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson: Free boxing tips, expert predictions, undercard and where to watch

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul pose at a pre-fight press conference

All eyes will be on the AT&T Stadium in Texas this Friday night as boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber-turned-pro boxer Jake Paul meet in one of the biggest freak fights of all time.

Some love it, some hate it, but you can’t deny that it has got the entire world talking.

At 58 years old, Tyson will be looking to rediscover his killer instinct as he steps into the ring to face a 27-year-old legend killer.

Paul has built a reputation of beating up old, and in some cases, retired stars from the combat world.

Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva all felt the wrath of Paul before the YouTuber suffered his first defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury.

Since then, he notched two high-profile wins over a 39-year-old ex UFC star Nate Diaz and bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry.

Tyson, who was biting Evander Holyfield’s ear when Paul was born, was last seen in the ring back in 2020 during an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

There are serious ethical questions about the nature of this fight, but no matter what anyone says, the big Texas showdown is still going ahead. There’s simply too much money at stake.

Here, we take a look at predictions from some of the biggest names in the world of combat sports.

We also analyse the best bets and share where you can watch Friday’s extravaganza (the small hours of Saturday morning if you are in the UK).

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

(Please be aware odds are subject to change after the article's last update).

Teddy Atlas (Mike Tyson’s former trainer)

“The last thing that goes is power, look at George Foreman," said Atlas on his YouTube channel.

“Yeah your speed goes and your reflexes deteriorate, no doubt about it, but your power don’t.

“It’s muscle memory and if Paul throws a punch then Mike has the muscle memory to slip it and throw a punch and that’s all the timing he needs to land.

“So, if it is real and legit, I think the first two rounds could be really dangerous for Paul.

"You could see Tyson going out and going BANG, BANG and suddenly Paul has a problem and that’s the curiosity for me.

“I think he has the physicality, even at 58, to hurt the guy - if he has that mental effort and attitude and commitment to want to do it in a legitimate way."

Lennox Lewis (Former undisputed champion)

“Mike Tyson’s gonna win. He’s not that old. Don’t take him too softly. We’re one year apart," Lewis told FOX 29 in Philadelphia.

"You can fight somebody like that and do well, because the person you’re fighting is not a true fighter and there’s a hundred things that you’ve forgotten that he’s learning."

Roy Jones Jr (Former world champion)

"Well, I like Mike, probably by decision," Jones Jr told talkSPORT. "But if he chooses to go out and take him out, I think he can.

“However, I feel like if he feels comfortable, he will just box and enjoy himself because why get in shape to go one round...

"I don't fear for Mike and how old he is. Mike is still hard to hit and Mike still hits hard as hell."

Tyson Fury (Former world champion)

"If Mike Tyson hits anybody, I don’t care if he’s 90, he’s going to knock them out cold isn’t he?" he said during an interview on the MMA Hour.

"He’s Iron Mike Tyson, the baddest man on the planet.

"Jake Paul is very experienced now and he's had a lot of fights but obviously, I have to back Mike Tyson for the knockout as he always backs me."

George Groves (Former WBA champion)

"He must know that he's dangerous early and probably isn’t backing himself down the stretch," he told Best Offshore Sportsbooks.

"Two minute rounds will suit him because he's getting a minute's rest quicker than usual.

"14oz gloves, you can get some spiteful 14s. We'll see which ones they show up with.

“I think it’s got to be a tough man [to train Tyson] and guys from the mixed martial arts backgrounds usually have very clever, old-school, unconventional methods, and they're usually tough guys so I can imagine that's what Tyson's leant into.

"He wants to be quick, he wants to be powerful, but he wants to be tough too, so maybe that's what we'll see.”

Richard Steele (Hall of Fame referee)

“I don't see the guy going that distance with Tyson,” he told USA Today. “Because Tyson, he's so strong and he's an ex-champion.

"He knows what he's doing and for two minutes, he can go all out.

"He's still dangerous. He has so much power.

"I just hope he don't end up getting hurt or hurt the other guy."

Mike Perry (Ex UFC, current BKFC boxer)

“I don't see the guy going that distance with Tyson. Because Tyson, he's so strong and he's an ex-champion.

"He knows what he's doing and for two minutes, he can go all out.

"He's still dangerous. He has so much power.

"I just hope he don't end up getting hurt or hurt the other guy."

Logan Paul (Jake Paul’s brother)

“Let's go, Jake! Mike Tyson, you don't even know. You're messing with the Pauls, bruh. Let's go, Jake. First-round knockout. Yeet!"

Nate Diaz (UFC legend)

"I don't give a f***," he said before eventually delivering his prediction. "Nah Mike Tyson."

Anthony Joshua (Former world champion)

"He [Mike Tyson] is older now," he said on the Jonathan Ross Show.

"I pray that he comes out healthy. I think Jake Paul [wins] because of youth - that’s the only thing.”

Bob Arum (Top Rank promoter)

"A 58-year-old guy, no matter how good they were, no matter how athletic they were, are not gonna be able to fight,” Arum said in an interview with Johnny Boy Boxing.

“You can’t throw punches like you’re supposed to, you can’t do a lot of things. I hope Mike doesn’t get hurt, but I really give him relatively no chance. You lose that muscle memory as you get older."

Jorge Masvidal (UFC legend)

"No matter how much of an athlete, how mean he was in his prime, this is way past his prime," he said.

"So I just don't know how much of Tyson is left. Could Jake beat him? Yeah. But is that Mike Tyson? No."

Sean O’Malley (Former UFC champion)

“I just feel like Jake is too locked in it, been in it too long, in the last five years who’s been in it more?" he told The Schmo.

"I think that matters. He’s what, 30 years younger? I just don’t see this ending well for Uncle Mike.”

Buster Douglas (Mike Tyson’s former opponent)

"It’s not going to be good for Jake," Douglas said in an interview with Gambling Zone in June.

"I don’t think there will be much of a boxing career left for Paul afterwards. I think once Mike gets rid of him, that’s it for his boxing career. The best scenario for Paul is to just last the entire fight, say he went the distance with Mike Tyson."

Carl Froch (Former world champion)

“Paul can’t lose. It’s in the contract, he can’t lose. He is a useless w****r.”

Seb Sternik (Planet Sport)

On one hand, you can’t help but hate the concept of this fight. On the other, the unpredictability makes it enormously engrossing.

Trouble is, there are so many questions that we simply don’t have answers to. We all remember Mike Tyson for the in-ring warrior he once was. But at 58, how much of that warrior is still there.

Watching clips of training would suggest Tyson still has some level of boxing barbarity running through his veins. Question is, how many rounds can a 58 year old man realistically compete at his best – especially against a young opponent who is arguably in the best shape of his life.

In terms of a prediction, if Tyson can land some of his signature punches in the first two or three rounds, he will prevail. However, if Paul can survive the early onslaught, we’re backing the youngster to come out on top in the second half of the fight.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard tips

Jake Paul against Mike Tyson is the fight that will make global headlines. But the fight which will be keenly followed by the boxing purists is Katie Taylor’s undisputed super-lightweight title showdown with Amanda Serrano.

When the two women first clashed, they produced arguably one of the most famous showdowns in women’s boxing history.

Their 2022 Madison Square Garden bout was a sell-out and went to a split decision as Taylor retained her belts.

Since then, the Irish superstar had a couple of nail-biting fights with Chantelle Cameron, losing the first before avenging her defeat a few months later – both by majority decision.

Serrano, on the other hand, has won all of her five fights since her last meeting with Taylor – including a second-round TKO win over Stevie Morgan back in July.

Unlike the main event, we expect this one to go the distance. What’s more, we’re backing Serrano to have her hand raised.

Cameron has produced a road map on how to defeat Taylor and an in-form Serrano will be determined to follow it.

Elsewhere on the card, Mario Barrios will be looking to defend his WBC welterweight title against Abel Ramos.

Since losing to Keith Thurman back in 2022, Barrios has won his last two fights – including his WBC title win over Yordenis Ugas and his first defence against Fabian Maidana.

Ramos, on the other hand, has boxed just five times in the last four years – losing three of those outings.
With that in mind, we’re backing Barrios to make a successful title defence.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard tips
