Wolverhampton racing tips: Tiger Beetle and Light Up Our Stars ready to shine

Wolverhampton signs off for the festive season on Friday eveing, and the very last race of the night looks likely to give us as exciting a race as any on this bumper all-weather card.

At the time of writing all of the five market leaders could be backed at 5/1 in some quarters, which illustrates the open nature of the extended one-mile handicap

Of those it is Hugo Palmer’s Supaspecialawesome who has attracted the most support in the morning betting after having opened the day carrying a double-digit price, although the three-year-old will need to bounce back from some modest displays to justify that support.

Of the other market principals, Hale End, Cosmos Raj and Great Blasket have all put in recent performances to suggest their next win might come sooner rather than later, but it is the top-rated and top-weighted Tiger Beetle who has created the greatest buzz within the Tipstrr camp.

Mark Rimell’s five-year-old endured a disappointing turf campaign during the summer, but found his return to Wolverhampton’s synthetic surface much more to his liking when landing back-to-back successes here over a slightly longer trip in October and November.

Two subsequent outings over longer trips at Lingfield were less fruitful, but back under winning jockey Rob Hornby, Tiger Beetle could very well bounce back, and it’s also worth noting he also won his last outing of 2022 here at this same pre-Christmas meeting.

Anyone preferring to look for a larger price could benefit from the extra each-way places that are widely up for grabs, and that could bring the chances of another popular Tipstrr pick, Light Up Our Stars, into the reckoning.

Three below-par recent outings have taken the gloss of this seven-year-old’s impressive course-and-distance win here in October, when he took control a furlong out and kept on strongly to win with a healthy length and a half in hand.

He was found wanting over this trip just three days ago, but his quick turnaround could be interpreted in a positive light, especially as all the horses that beat him on Tuesday were rated higher than any he will face in this lower-graded 0-75 handicap.
