Pontefract each-way racing tip: Mount King shaping up to repeat recent win

With four each-way places widely available, Tipstrr’s team of racing experts are looking beyond the market leaders for the best value in what appears to be a wide-open handicap.

17:30 Pontefract: Matty Brown Handicap (1 mile)

The Ralph Beckett-trained Mexicali Rose has edged her way clear at the top of the betting after converting three near misses into her maiden victory at Chepstow last time out, and she looks well-treated to progress further now back to handicapping.

Of the other market principals, Dubawi Warrior won on his penultimate outing but disappointed on handicap debut last month, since when he has been gelded and now wears first-time cheekpieces with his winning jockey Tom Marquand back in the cockpit.

However, it is a couple of mid-market prospects that have caught the eye of Tipstrr’s each-way specialists, who appear to be torn between Karl Burke’s Tele Red and Tim Easterby’s Mount King.

Tele Red has enjoyed a stellar summer, landing back-to-back successes at Haydock and York in July, and being far from disgraced in three subsequent frame finishes.

He could go well again under Andrew Breslin’s three-pound claim, and would be our next-best bet, but it is bottom-weight Mount King who gets our final thumbs-up as the only last-time-out victor besides the aforementioned favourite.

That maiden success was long overdue after being in contention in most of his previous 11 career outings, and he won in convincing style, always holding on to win by a length from the closest of 11 rivals at Thirsk three weeks ago.

Winning jockey that day was Sean Kirrane, who retains the ride and knows his way around the Pontefract course, having guided five of his 26 previous rides here into the winner’s enclosure.

Mount King’s three-pound rise looks a fair reaction to that winning display, and he looks more than capable of carrying it into another winning challenge at a decent price.

Suggested bet: Mount King each-way in the 17:30 at Pontefract
