Newmarket free racing tip: Oaks runner-up can go one better after extended break

Newmarket stalls

The Flat season is bowing out with a flourish with some big prizes up for grabs at Friday’s Newmarket meeting, where the last race on the card is sure to send some lucky punters home happy.

16:45 Newmarket: Pony Academy Pride Stakes (1 mile 2 furlongs)

Dance Sequence has been running at the very top level of racing this season, with her four 2024 races coming in the Nell Gwyn (a neck runner-up to Pretty Crystal), the 1000 Guineas, The Oaks (finished another good second behind Ezeliya), before being last seen in France, where she came up short in the very competitive Prix De Diane Fillies’ Stakes at Chantilly.

That last outing probably came too soon and was a race too far in a hectic couple of months, but she has now had 117 days off and returns in a race that looks very suitable for her racing style, plus she has run very well when fresh in the past.

This well-bred daughter of Dubawi appeals as the strongest candidate to defy her high draw and possesses all the ability to flourish in slightly calmer waters and it is likely we will see an improved model emerging from her break as she matures towards becoming a four-year-old.

This race represents a huge drop down to Group 3 level, which she should find much easier than the Group 1 races she was tackling during the early summer.

Trainer Charlie Appleby boasts an impressive  30% win rate here at the Newmarket Rowley track since the start of the 2020 season, while jockey William Buick is only marginally behind, with a 29% strike rate here.

Suggested Bet: Dance Sequence in the 16:45 at Newmarket
