Newcastle free racing tip: Promising two-year-old poised to shed maiden tag

Newcastle racecourse

There’s an all-weather card to savour at Newcastle on Friday, and this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it five-furlong handicap should be a fascinating race between half a dozen lively two-year-olds.

15:05 Newcastle: Gamble Responsibly at BetMGM Nursery Handicap (5 furlongs)

Of the six starters Kaleidoscope Eyes has suffered more than his fair share of near misses across his six two-year-old outings, and none closer than his runner-up spot at Southwell eight days ago.

Michael Appleby’s young filly looks a worthy favourite, but one who could run her close is Monticristo Boy, who interestingly turns out alongside stablemate Lima Sierra as Nigel Tinkler’s only runners on Friday, both appearing in the same race.

Monticristo Boy is the gelded son of Soldier's Call, and has been by far the most consistent performer of the market leader’s challengers, and has looked especially at home on all-weather surfaces.

One of his two runner-up spots was over six furlongs at this venue on his penultimate appearance, and he returned here a fortnight ago to put in another solid performance to come a creditable fourth of 10.

He finished only a length behind the winner that day in a first-time tongue strap which is retained here, and he continues to look full of potential off a dangerous mark of 53.

Faye McManoman has become Tinkler’s go-to jockey and takes this gelding’s reins for the first time, with connections fully expecting their prospect to shed his maiden tag sooner rather than later.

Suggested Bet: Monticristo Boy in the 15:05 at Newcastle
