Lingfield best bet (1400): Conditions look ideal for bold bid from King’s Code

Lingfield Park

Saturday’s decimated card means that the eyes of racing fans will be on Lingfield’s all-weather meeting, from where Tipstrr racing expert Steve Jones has shared his Daily Bargain best bet.

14:00 Lingfield: Win 2,000,000 with BetMGM’s Golden Goals Handicap (7 furlongs)

David Evans’ four-year-old King’s Code certainly knows how to win, having landed five of his 12 handicaps to date, and his last four wins have been achieved for his current yard after he was transferred from Richard Hannon last August.

He is a dual winner on tapeta circuit at Wolverhampton and he has also shown that he acts equally well on polytrack, finishing second of 11 behind Penzance over 10 furlongs at Chelmsford last month.

There was certainly no disgrace in that defeat because Penzance went on to win his next two starts, and King’s Code was well clear of his other nine rivals headed by True Statesman, who then ran within half a length of winning in the same grade next time.

Progressing again next time, King’s Code then won a Class 3 contest over 9.5 furlongs at Wolverhampton, beating a very useful field in the process.

King’s Code showed the speed to hit the front before the furlong pole, so a fast-run mile around a track like this will be ideal for him. He showed similar speed when he won over 7.5 furlongs at Chester in September, so he isn’t short on either speed or stamina.

His latest run is easily excused because he was caught out wide and raced keenly as a result, so he is better judged on those two previous outings, which produced the two best performances of his career to prove that he is still progressing.

Suggested bet: King’s Code in the 14:00 at Lingfield

Of the others, Tropez Power should go well now that he has an outing behind him. His return to action, in a higher-graded Class 2 at Newcastle on New Year’s Day, can easily be overlooked because he was denied a clear run on multiple occasions.

But that run will have blown away the cobwebs, so he is a big player from a very handy stall 4 draw based on his previous all-weather form, which has seen him record figures of 1313212 from his seven previous all-weather handicaps, the latest of which was a near-miss over a mile in today’s grade.

Next Best bet: Tropez Power in the 14:00 at Lingfield
