Leicester free racing tips: Conditions ideal for course-distance winner over preferred trip

Leicester racecourse

Leicester’s ground looks certain to be challenging by the time Tuesday’s last race rolls around, which could prove perfect for a course-distance winner who relishes testing conditions.

17:35 Leicester: Next Meeting Monday 28th October Handicap (1 mile 53 yards)

We could hardly have picked a better time to showcase Tipstrr pundit, Steve Jones, whose CD Systems Daily Bargain services crowned his back-to-back 8/1 success on Friday and Saturday with a whopping 20/1 winner in Rock Melody at Musselburgh on Monday.

Today he opts for Diffident Spirit, who looks a good bet to repeat his course-distance win of early last season, when, under today’s rider, Ray Dawson, he produced a very impressive performance to land a Class 5 handicap by over four lengths on heavy ground.

He ran off a mark of 68, so he was 2lbs higher than he is today, and he easily beat six rivals rated up to 76, four of whom were rated 72-76, which compares very favourably with today’s opposition, who are rated 60-68.

Clearly, a repeat of anything like that level of performance will give this six-year-old every chance of repeating that success, and the omens look good because he returned from a three-month break with a very solid performance in a higher-graded seven furlong Class 4 at Ascot ten days ago.

Best Bet : Diffident Spirit each-way in the 17:35 at Leicester

His two testing-ground runs over a mile have seen him beaten by only one rival, and that was in a Class 5 at Nottingham just a week after last season’s win over this trip.

Diffident Spirit ran off an increased mark of 74 that day, which is 8lbs higher than he has today, and this uphill track suits him much better than the flat track at Nottingham.

Seven furlongs proved too short at Ascot last time out, but he still ran very well on return from a break and that will set him up perfectly for a return to his preferred trip in ideal testing conditions.

Of the others, Equion was rated 70 this time last year, so he is well worth a look off his current mark of 63, given that he comes here in good form following a second of 14 over the soft ground mile at Bath at the start of the month.

Bath is another stiff, uphill track and this six-year-old also stays up to 10 furlongs, having placed over that longer trip in a Class 5 at Haydock last season, when racing off 5lbs higher than today.

Next Best Bet: Equion in the 17:35 at Leicester
