Leicester best bet (1725): Aspire To Glory likely to leave it late again

Tuesday afternoon’s racing action concludes with this tasty seven-furlong sprint that offers Leicester race-goers a great chance to have the last laugh at the bookies’ expense.

17:25 Leicester: Ronan Keating Ladies Day 15th June Handicap  (7 furlongs)

A tight betting market has Rinnovati emerging as the likely tentative favourite, with Archie Watson’s newly-acquired filly looking to build on a very encouraging season, handicap and stable debut three weeks ago when he finished runner-up of 10 at Kempton, with the promise of more to come.

Fellow market leader Teddy Brown will have hope to have something to say about that after rounding off a hat-trick of respectable frame finishes at Redcar eight days ago, when he was just edged out into third place on the run-in by a neck and a short head.

It’s hard to see the winner of this coming outside the market principals, which brings us to our preferred pick in the shape of the aptly-named Aspire To Glory, who returns to action three months after a promising winter campaign on the all-weather.

Suggested best bet: Aspire To Glory in the 17:25 at Leicester

Back-to-back wins either side of Christmas were both over this distance at Lingfield and Kempton respectively, while he also acquitted himself well in his two subsequent defeats, the most recent of which was over a longer one-mile trip at Kempton in February.

Promising claimer Tommie Jakes is no mug at the reins, as this season’s 14 wins and 23 additional places from 103 rides indicates, and his five-pound allowance should again prove invaluable as he retains his place in the saddle.

Both of Aspire To Glory’s wins saw him take the lead in the final stages, so we shouldn’t be surprised if Jakes again keeps him slightly off the pace before producing him close to home, and assuming they are in position to do just that, then he can certainly make his presence felt again here.
