Kempton free racing tip: Course-distance winner can hit ground running after long break

Kempton racecourse

Kempton Park turns its attention to National Hunt, and this handicap chase looks likely to be one of the most competitive races on Sunday’s card.

15:25 Kempton: Trustatrader for Tradespeople You Can Trust Handicap Chase (2 miles 2 furlongs)

The Skelton brothers look to have a likely contender in the shape of bottom-weight Frere D’Armes, who looks a major player off a reduced mark, but will face a serious challenge from top-weighted Persian Time.

This capable six-year-old has won two of his four starts over larger obstacles, the most recent of which came over this course and distance in March, when he beat the reopposing Beau Balko with 6 lengths in hand.

After a 176-day break, he should be produced refreshed and raring to go by trainer Nicky Henderson, who boasts a 22% win rate here at Kempton since the start of the 2020/21 season.

Jockey Nico De Boinville has an even more impressive 23% strike rate at this venue, and he will climb aboard boosted by two wins in his last five outings, including 20/1 shot Smugglers Haven at Hereford.

Persian Time should put a bold showing in this class 3 handicap chase, which could serve as a prelude to an even smarter campaign over fences this winter.

Suggested Bet: Persian Time in the 15:25 at Kempton
