Hereford racing tips (1515): Harry Cobden to lead Family Pot home, Noah’s Light could surprise

Hereford goes ahead

Another intriguing handicap sponsored by Planet Sport Bet sees a dozen runners line up for a competitive chase that the bookies have pegged as a three-horse race between the market principals.

Benny Silver just about heads the early betting and could well be the one to beat if he can transfer his recent hurdling form (two runner-up spots in August and October) into his chasing debut, while the lightly-raced Ballinoulart will also be looking to build on a runner-up spot around this course four weeks ago.

However, no runner is more familiar with this venue than the Sheila Lewis-trained Family Pot, who takes on the Hereford fences for the sixth time in his nine outings over the last year.

This grey eight-year-old has made the first three in all six outings over the last year, including quickfire back-to-back victories in similar conditions in February, the first of which was over this very trip.

Third here on season debut, his second run just nine days later was probably too quick a turnaround, while the first-time booking of Harry Cobden looks like a significantly positive move after his successes at Cheltenham over the weekend.

Elsewhere, the four places that are widely available have caught the eye of each-way specialist Richard Hutchinson, who provides the analysis below as part of his Read Between The Lines service on Tipstrr.

We’ve been on Noah’s Light three times before and we’re not giving up on him here as he has all the hallmarks of a winner in waiting.

He won at Navan this time two years ago and postmarked 112 & 113 on good ground over this distance, so he should relish today’s trip and conditions.

Richenda Ford’s six-year-old has had wind problems which has seen him run disappointingly since he moved from Ireland and his mark has dropped from 120 to just 73.

He has hinted at his ability in running and his recent switch to chasing has seen him jump fences well enough to suggest he can win a race, so it’s just a case of when he is fit enough to get all the way round without his breathing troubling him.

Connections have only run him with a tongue-tie twice and it goes back on today at a time after he’s had a recent pipe opener (that he always needs) and he steps up to his optimum two-and-a-half-mile trip.

The visor is deployed for the first time and historically his best runs have tended to be second time out.

As the rank outsider, he carries a huge price, but with those four places available in this 12-runner race, his chances look way better than those odds indicate, so he looks well worth an each-way play.
