Hereford best bet: Kick Up A Storm to land the odds under Harry Cobden

Planet Sport Bet winner's post

Hereford’s PlanetSportBet-sponsored card continues with this long-distance handicap hurdle that is expected to be dominated by their own horse racing ambassador, Harry Cobden.

Only six runners are scheduled to line up for this three-mile trip, and it’s hard to see past the short-priced favourite, Kick Up A Storm, who is looking to build on his impressive reappearance last month.

The Paul Nicholls-trained six-year-old had offered few signs of encouragement in this three 2023 outings, but the application of first-time cheekpieces produced an instant positive impact upon his return from a four-month break.

Having remained handy throughout the 23-furlong trip, Lorcan Williams produced Kick Up A Storm between the last two fences, from which point the result was never in doubt, as they pushed out to win by more than four lengths.

The gelding’s breeding suggests that he has the potential to run further and better, and the re-introduction of Harry Cobden to the saddle makes him very much the one to beat here.

The favourite’s main challenge is fancied to come from Face D’Music, who showed promise with a runner-up finish at Ffos Las six days ago, although his quick turnaround does offer hope to the other other four runners, who will be ready to pounce at decent odds should either of the two market principles falter.

That factor has caught the attention of a number of Tipstrr’s each-way aficionados, who have duly gravitated towards the lightly-raced Izzy’s Grey, whose limited 2023 outings ended at this venue when he finished a close runner-up behind MacTavish, who has franked that form with another win and three frame finishes in four subsequent outings.

Izzy’s Grey has since come under the wing of Belinda Clarke, so after one modest effort under a different rider in November, it will be interesting to see how he has wintered after five months off, with usual jockey Ciaran Gethings back in the pilot’s seat.

Each-way punt: Izzy’s Grey in the 16:05 at Hereford
