Epsom each-way racing tip: Recent course-distance winner Little Boy Blue can defy outsider odds

Epsom racecourse

Our colleagues at Tipstrr have been scanning Thursday’s race cards to bring us one of their most widely tipped outsiders from the evening meeting at Epsom.

20:05 Epsom: Betfred ‘Bet Builder’ Handicap  (7 furlongs)

It’s no surprise to see last-time-out winner Miss Information topping the betting as the odds-on favourite, given her own form and that of the Oisin Murphy/Andrew balding team behind her.

She will start unpunished for her emphatic three-length success over this distance at Chepstow just six days ago, and she is expected to go even better under Murphy as she takes on older horses for the first time.

However, they would be wise not to underestimate their closest market rival Guiteau, who emerged from an eight-month break to beat eight rivals by four lengths and more over this course and distance just a week ago.

Beyond those two market leaders, the prices of the remaining eight starters are weak enough to suggest that any one of them could feature in the minor placings, or even better should either or both the principals slip up.

Bottom-weight Voodoo Ray landed a hat-trick of wins in 0-55 handicaps in the spring, but was found wanting in 0-70 company last time out six weeks ago, and this 0-82 affair is likely to produce a similar outcome.

Conversely, Little Boy Blue was pitched straight into 0-85 company on his reappearance a fortnight ago after an eight-month break, having gone eight races since his previous success at Chepstow last June.

Bill Turner's team had clearly put some good work in over the winter, because Little Boy Blue promptly hit the ground running to land a 28/1 upset over this course and distance, beating the well-raced and in-form Tropze power by a neck.

The way he rallied to retake the lead late on was proof that he still has plenty of competitive fire in his nine-year-old belly to contend at this level, and with Robert Havlin again entrusted with pilot duties, they could well prove the bookies wrong again here.

Suggested best bet: Little Boy Blue each-way in the 20:05 at Epsom
