Group 1 winner GOLD PHOENIX (9) showed good early speed and raced just off the lead before lifting to score by 0.3 lengths over 1m3f in the G2 Del Mar Handicap (Turf) last start. Kyle Frey who has three wins when partnering stays on. Should be in the finish. Multiple Group 3 winner BALNIKHOV (11) was narrowly beaten last start when third in a small field over 1m3f in the G2 Del Mar Handicap (Turf). Will be fitter for that run, can go on to win. Group 2 winner DICEY MO CHARA (5) showed good early speed then led into the straight last start before fighting on to finish second, beaten 0.3 lengths, over 1m3f in the G2 Del Mar Handicap (Turf). Well-placed and expected to feature again. Multiple Group 2 winner MASTER PIECE (4) was out of the money two runs back when fresh from a lay-off then again missed the frame last start over 1m3f at Del Mar, beaten 1.5 lengths into fifth. Well placed and can figure in the finish this time.
