PRIMAL SPIRIT (6) finished out of the money when fresh from a lay-off two starts back then was beaten 5.5 lengths when fifth over 7½f at Bendigo three-and-a-half weeks ago. Nicely placed to get the prize. DESERT STAR (2) improved sharply on his sixth two starts back at Ballarat with a win as favourite over 7f at Seymour two weeks ago, getting home by one length. Going up a level this time but he is good enough to play a major role. MILBRAE (11) finished third last time over 6f at Geelong, beaten 1.4 lengths. Stepping up a level this time but on his best form he is capable of a big performance. SMART DEEL (7) showed good early dash and stalked the pace last start before drawing clear to score by a nose over 7f at Pakenham Synthetic. Can figure in the finish again.
