York each-way racing tip: Lord Of The Lodge ready to rule the roost

York racecourse

Tipstrr’s each-way aficionados have been all over this big-field handicap, with the aptly-named Underdog Racing Tips part of a consensus that suggests Lord Of The Lodge is one to watch here.

16:45 York: Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap (7 furlongs)

At the top of the betting, Doctor Khan Junior is prescribed to go well again after enjoying back-to-back successes, the latter of which was over this course-and-distance in another large-field handicap under similar conditions.

With jockey Harry Davies adding another three pounds to a low mark, the favourite will be the one to beat, but there is plenty in with a decent each-way shout, especially with most bookies offering five places (even six if you shop around).

Top weight Royal Pleasure holds serious claims, as does the more kindly-treated Mobashr, and there is plenty of support for both within the Tipstrr community, but the most popular pick is the Karl Burke-trained Lord Of The Lodge.

Race-fit from a busy winter on the all-weather, he last won six races ago over this distance at Southwell, and while his turf debut was forgettable, it could be forgiven for being over a six-furlong trip that was just too sharp.

He looked much more at ease over this course and distance 20 days ago, when he produced his best turf performance for a long time to finish fourth of ten in a higher graded race than here.
The three that beat him that day were all rated 100+ to the 89 of Lord Of The Lodge, who is now eased two pounds to 87 in lesser 0-90 company.

Factor in claiming jockey Brandon Wilkie's seven-pound allowance and a yard that has a good record at the York track, and this smart six-year-old looks great value at any double digit-price.

Suggested bet: Lord Of The Lodge each-way in the 16:45 at York
