York betting tips: Angel Hunter poised for bold bid, Qaseem no forlorn each-way hope

Tucked away in another bumper Ebor card is this wide-open nursery handicap, with the 17 promising two-year-olds sure to provide a thrilling seven-furlong contest for York’s race-goers to enjoy.

While William Buick and Oisin Murphy look likely to be on board the two market favourites in Age Of Gold and Spell Master respectively, our tipsters’ collective expert eye has been drawn towards the blossoming potential of Angel Hunter.

Despite going winless in three attempts so far, Richard Hannon’s Acclamation colt has given plenty of cause for optimism since coming third of 10 (less than a length behind the winner) on debut at Sandown early last month.

Fourth of 12 at Ascot just eight days later, Angel Hunter made the frame again when last seen at Haydock 18 days ago, staying on strongly to finish a never-nearer third of 12 over a shorter six-furlong trip.

Three different jockeys took those first three rides, and now Ryan Moore becomes the fourth, and the young colt surely could not be in better hands in his search for a maiden victory now back up to his optimum seven-furlong trip.

With five places widely available (as many as six in some quarters), there’s plenty for each-way punters to get excited about, with Jayvee, Hot Property and Cyclonite all having shown enough to suggest they could challenge for a frame finish.

Getting our final nod of approval, however,  is another offspring of Acclamation, in the shape of Qaseem, who has been improving race on race for Karl Burke.

Building on a green-looking debut in early June, he found only one horse too good in each of his next two outings before converting those near misses into a maiden success on a return to Haydock 18 days ago.

That win quickly incurred the wrath of the handicapper, but even with a four-pound penalty he looks equipped to continue his progress now back in the capable hands of returning winning jockey Clifford Lee.
