Wolverhampton free each-way racing tip: Rank outsider looking to defy huge odds

Runners in the Betway Novice Stakes race past an empty grandstand at Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton Racecourse, January 2021

There’s some decent all-weather racing to enjoy at Wolverhampton on Monday night, and in this competitive six-furlong sprint our tipster is recommending a cautious each-way punt on the rank outsider.

17:30 Wolverhampton: Download The Raceday Ready App Handicap (6 furlongs)

With the three market leaders covered by barely a couple of betting points at the time of writing, they all look as vulnerable as they do fancied, suggesting one of those lower down the betting might be able to gatecrash the prize-winning places.

Enter rank outsider State Of Madness, whom our tipster believes looks more interesting here than the form book suggests, and might just be worth a cautious each-way bet to improve on his most recent outing a month ago.

That effort came in a class 4 handicap at Doncaster, where he was awkward at the start and then struggled for racing room just after the final furlong pole, after which he was unable to make any sort of impression on the leading players at that crucial stage.

However, this represents a drop in class to the calmer waters of a class 5 handicap, which should be much more to his liking, as he had shown enough promise in his previous outings to suggest that he could find his competitive level in handicap company.

Derek Shaw’s lightly-raced three-year-old is lurking on dangerous-looking mark of 65 and could have a big say at a huge price under James Sullivan, who is no stranger to putting outsiders in the frame, having landed an 11/1 winner and two third places (33/1 and 15/2) in his last six rides.

Suggested Bet: State Of Madness each-way in the 17:30 at Wolverhampton
