Wednesday free racing tip: Promising filly ready to step up on handicap debut

A view of Great Yarmouth racecourse

In what looks to be a wide-open race, one of our tipsters think one of the most powerful teams in racing can spring an each-way surprise at tasty odds.

16:40 Yarmouth: British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (1 mile 3½ furlongs)

We have high hopes for the Gosden/Shoemark combination at Yarmouth on Wednesday, not least with one of their most promising young fillies in this middle-distance handicap.

Perrine makes her handicap debut of a mark of 73 and that looks fair enough for this daughter of Nathaniel, who seems to be getting better with every run.

An inauspicious debut on Doncaster’s turf in July was soon cast aside with two much more promising runs on Kempton’s all-weather, and was threatening to get seriously involved there last time out days ago, before settling for third place.

However, she looked like the pace level wasn't the most ideal for her and is clearly still by no means the finished article so a bigger performance is due in good time.

Leading stable jockey Kieran Shoemark was aboard for the first time that day, and he is entrusted with the reins again after landing three winners and six each-way places from his last 14 rides, half of them for the Gosdens.

John and Thady Gosden boast a 23% strike rate at Yarmouth since the start of the 2020 season and we expect them to produce Perrine in good shape to be a much better prospect going down the handicap route.

Best Bet: Lil Guff in the 17:05 at Yarmouth
