Tuesday’s Punchestown Festival racing tips: Energumene an obscenely good talent

Paul Townend celebrates winning Champion Chase on Energumene at Cheltenham

Day one of the Punchestown Festival and Planet Sport have top picks from all eight races. Energumene the machine can do the business yet again.

Click on Planet Sport's Live Race Centre for all the latest information on racing at Punchestown including race cards.

Planet Sport's punchy Punchestown picks are listed below

Party Central (15.40 Punchestown)

Sir Gerhard (16.15 Punchestown)

Glan (16.50 Punchestown)

Energumene (17.25 Punchestown)

Rocco Ray (18.00 Punchestown)
Bob Olinger (18.35 Punchestown)
Good Bye Sam (19.10 Punchstown)
Summer Gale (19.45 Punchestown)
Here's some more juicy detail on Planet Sport's three main choices on a thrillingly competitive first day of jumps action in Ireland.

15.40 Punchestown - Party Central

Gordon Elliott can get the party started with this Yeats mare in the Howden Insurance Brokers Mares' Novice Hurdle.

A seventh last time out at the Cheltenham Festival didn't do Party Central justice and this course winner can do much better back on home turf.
A Leopardstown win in February saw Party Central have several of these behind and she can get in the groove once more under Davy Russell.

16.15 Punchestown - Sir Gerhard

Planet Sport are never ones to shy away from the class angle and Willie Mullins' Sir Gerhard is all class in the Bective Stud Champion Novice Hurdle.

A comfortable winner of the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, the Cheveley Park runner is on a fantastic four timer.
Dysart Dynamo is an obvious danger but not even a Mullins stablemate can live with Sir Gerhard on top form.

17.25 Punchestown - Energumene

A meeting dripping with quality means it's difficult not to fancy a few short-priced favourites.

Yet, the way that Willie Mullins' Energumene put so much pressure on Shishkin last time out when winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase suggests that he'll have too much in the William Hill Champion Chase.

Already a course and distance winner, Energumene can put together a string of victories to turn up the heat on rival Shishkin for when they next meet.
