Tuesday free racing tips: Two best bets from the last race at Punchestown

Punchestown racecourse

Tipstrr pundit Steve Jones has cast his expert eye for value across the Irish Sea, from where he has picked out his best-bet Daily Bargains in the very last race at Punchestown.

17:30 Punchestown: William Hill Proper Betting Handicap (1 mile 1 furlong 39 yards)

There’s plenty in with a decent shout here, but our nod goes to Simple Endeavour, who has had to settle for second place in each of her last two handicaps, a 0-64 at Naas and a 0-63 at Tipperary.

The first of those races was won by Empress Alma, who duly defied a 6lb higher mark to land a 0-70 by no less than 5½ lengths two weeks later, so Simple Endeavour was very unlucky to bump into such a progressive individual in a low-grade contest, especially as she was well clear of the other nine runners.

Latterly, she dropped back in trip and went down by half a length to a winner who hasn’t been out since, but the third-placed finisher, Bizarre Dreams, has since won a 12-runner 0-65 event (which was significantly stronger than this race) and is now rated 68 (above today’s field).

Best Bet: Simple Endeavour in the 17:30 at Punchestown

Simple Endeavour was sent off a clear favourite for that latest Tipperary handicap, and with Siobhan Rutledge’s claim today, she is effectively 2lbs lower in what looks an easier race.

The filly has been somewhat unfortunate to bump into a couple of improvers the last twice and this looks a good opportunity for her to go one better.

She is a prominent racer drawn wide, but she is normally quickly away and there is a good long run to the first bend here, which will give her rider plenty of time to get across to a forward position.

She stays at least 10 furlongs strongly and the shorter trip at Tipperary might have been a bit sharp for her last time. The same trip here looks ideal, and it’s worth noting that three of the last five renewals have been won from a double-figure draw.

Of the others, it’s no surprise to see Keilah at the head of the early market on the back of her two recent placed efforts at Clonmel and Navan, particularly her near miss at the latter venue ten days ago, when she went down by just half a length in a 10-furlong handicap in 0-65 company.

She was sent off as a clear favourite for that race and looked the winner as she hit the front at the furlong pole, only to be headed in the closing stages with the front pair well clear of their 15 rivals.

From a decent stall 5 draw, she looks sure to go well again under the same rider and the slightly shorter trip should help her get home more strongly.

Next best bet: Keilah in the 17:30 at Punchestown
