Thirsk best each-way bet: Overpriced prospect can make presence known in low-class handicap

Thirsk racecourse

With as many as six each-way places up for grabs in Monday’s opening race at Thirsk, our tipsters have picked out a decent prospect who looks capable of making the frame at a decent price.

13:45 Thirsk: Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Saves Lives Handicap (1½ miles)

Can Can Girl might not be not the classiest horse in the world, but at the price she looks a decent option in this very weak-looking contest that should suit her running style.

Craig Lidster's six-year-old mare arrives here with the visor refitted after five outings without one, although she did win in cheekpieces three outings ago in July over a slightly longer trip at Doncaster.

Excuses could be made for her only managing to finish ahead of one of her 13 rivals at Catterick last time out three weeks ago, as she never recovered from being very slowly away, and in this much lower-class 0-52 handicap, her chances should be enhanced by William Pyle’s handy three-pound claim.

If he can coax a better break from Can Can Girl and if the re-applied visor has the desired effect, then there appears to be little special among her rivals to suggest that she cannot stake a claim for at least a frame finish.

Best Bet: Can Can Girl in the 13:45 at Doncaster
