Sunday ITV Racing Tips: Best bets for the Curragh, Cartmel and Uttoxeter
An extra bonus day of ITV weekend racing with three meetings for the Planet Sport tipsters to get stuck into on Sunday, July 2.
Here's a quick run through of all seven races being shown on the telly, with the Irish Derby (1540) at the Curragh the big highlight.
The reasons behind our selections are further down the page, while anyone wanting a punt or two should check out the
Planet Sport race centre.
Good luck and please gamble responsibly.
(Please be aware selections could become non-runners after article's first publication)
Sunday's selections:
14:05 (Cartmel) Marshalled
14:25 (Curragh) Commanche Falls
14:40 (Cartmel) Banks Boy
15:00 (Curragh) Run Ran Run
15:12 (Uttoxeter) Jaytee
15:40 (Curragh) Auguste Rodin
13:50 (Curragh) Bucanero Fuerte
Ever since he made a sparkling debut here in March, Bucanero Fuerte has been highly touted by connections and he went someway to proving them right when an excellent third in the Coventry.
The winner of that contest looks very smart, and his form looks a level above that of the Norfolk Stakes, in which His Majesty (fourth) finished ahead of Devious (sixth) when leading home his group on the near side.
Unquestionable made quite the impression when scoring over course and distance latest and he must enter calculations as well.
14:05 (Cartmel) Marshalled
A game winner over course and distance in May, Ubetya can go close off a 6lb higher mark, but the reopposing Marshalled is 1lb better off with his rival here for a nose defeat and is fancied to reverse the form of the aforementioned contest.
Ben Haslam's inmate has been fairly consistent of late and, despite racing off a career-high mark, looks the one to beat.
Quoi De Neuf adds further spice to the race off the same mark following a cosy win at Fakenham last month.
14:25 (Curragh) Commanche Falls
Commanche Falls has been running with plenty of credit in Group races having gone down by a head in the Group 3 Abernant at Newmarket in April.
His most recent display saw him finish third in the Duke Of York and a repeat of that performance at this level would make him tough to beat.
Tango Flare remains open to improvement on just his sixth career outing, following a brace of victories at Cork and Fairyhouse, while others for the shortlist include Wodao and Mooneista.
14:40 (Cartmel) Banks Boy
A case can be made for several of these, but Banks Boy gets the vote following a pleasing second at Cork in May.
Although he has gone up 11lb for that, there is likely more to come from Gordon Elliott's inmate and the unexposed son of Getaway could benefit from a drop in distance.
Castel Gandolfo secured a comfortable success over 2m at Kelso most recently and is feared most now 4lb above that mark, while Fiveonefive completes the shortlist.
15:00 (Curragh) Run Ran Run
A wide-open contest in which preferences lies with the unexposed Run Ran Run.
A game winner over course and distance on his most recent outing, the son of No Nay Never left a strong impression that there would be more to come and he can mount another bold bid off a 2lb higher mark.
Silmaniya finished in seventh behind the selection on her latest run but can give him plenty to think about now on this occasion.
Big Gossey and Laugh A Minute are just two others who boast solid credentials.
15:12 (Uttoxeter) Jaytee
Jaytee can take a starring role at Uttoxeter in the feature bet365 Summer Cup Handicap Chase.
Touched off by a neck at Southwell in May, he has since returned to that track to win twice, scoring by 11 lengths on the first occasion and 26 lengths the second time, despite a horrible blunder at the final obstacle.
Those wins coincided with the application of a visor and while the winning margins were perhaps reflective of limited competition, Jaytee could raise his game for this contest.
15:40 (Curragh) Auguste Rodin
It will be a huge shock if Epsom hero Auguste Rodin cannot follow up in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.
He showed his 2000 Guineas flop to be merely a blip when scything through the Derby field to see off King Of Steel by half a length with White Birch nearly five lengths back in third.
That rival reopposes here and could well close the gap, but Auguste Rodin is still expected to come out on top.
