Southwell free racing tip: Further progress expected from last-time-out winner
With just a couple of Sunday meetings across the UK, Southwell’s all-weather meeting should give ardent race-goers some decent racing action to enjoy, including this competitive seven-furlong sprint.
15:40 Southwell: Sky Sports Racing Virgin 519 Handicap Handicap (7 furlongs)
Heading the early market is the gelded son of Exceed And Excel, King David, who was last seen 25 days ago at Kempton, where he posted a career-best performance to land a maiden win, seeing off seven rivals over this distance.
He was driven out by Hollie Doyle that day to win in style, and although his mark has reverted to its previous 71, Marco Botti’s three-year-old still appears to be one step ahead of the handicapper.
He remains less exposed than most in this line-up, suggesting he has plenty of scope for further improvement so another bold showing is likely to be on the cards.
King David is the Botti yard’s only representative of the day, and the trainer can boast a comfortable £14.23 profit to a £1 level stake when having just the one runner at a meeting.
Harry Davies is booked this time, and the under-rated jockey will not be short of confidence after piloting two winners in his last five rides at odds of 10/1 and 7/2.
Suggested Bet: King David in the 15:40 at Southwell
