Newcastle free racing tip: Improving filly can bounce back after recent setback

Newcastle racecourse

All nine starters look capable of having a say in this competitive-looking seven-furlong sprint, and our tipster expects the only filly in the line-up to give the boys a run for their money.

19:55 Newcastle: Gamble Responsibly at BetMGM Handicap (7 furlongs)

Galel is a lightly-raced Exceed and Excel maiden who has yet to live up to the names of her parents, but who has shown she has more ability than her bare figures might suggest.

John Butler’s three-year-old is the only filly in this line-up and was last seen as an unfancied 25/1 shot at Wolverhampton 22 days ago, when she was showing good signs of improvement, apparently travelling better than in any of her previous four efforts.

However, just as she was making up ground inside the final furlong and threatening to make an impact, she was very badly hampered, forcing jockey Daniel Muscutt to snatch him up and ease him down completely.

She remains with potential and is currently operating on a dropping mark of 57 and, with claimer Kaiya Fraser knocking that down by a further three pounds, it appears that she could be ahead of the handicapper for the time being.

Fraser guided the 10/1 shot Too Much into the winner’s enclosure on her most recent ride at this venue on Friday and was a close-up second with her only ride at Pontefract on Monday, so she is capable of bringing more improvement out of this promising young filly.

Suggested Bet: Galel in the 19:55 at Newcastle
