Haydock nap May 28: Kinross to repeat John Of Gaunt success
Haydock provides plenty of quality Flat racing during the season and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge heads there for his Saturday, May 28th nap selection.
It's another big Saturday at Haydock Park and one of its traditional Group 3 races is where I am going for my Saturday selection.
It's the Betfred John Of Gaunt Stakes (15:30) and no, not because my family tree info suggests that my forefathers were supporters of his, I'm putting up last year's winner of this race, Kinross, to repeat the feat.
He's a better horse than he was this time last year, having won it that day when officially 8lb lower than he is now, under Frankie Dettori.
Frankie rides Sunray Major for the Gosdens this time but that does not put me off sticking with the now James Doyle-ridden Kinross.
He returns fresh, as he was 12-months ago, he went on to win the Group 2 Lennox Stakes next time out at Glorious Goodwood and then he just found the step up to Group 1 level a little bit too tough on his final three starts of the season.
There's no disgrace in that and now back at this level, with the forecast good to soft ground ideal, and with a very good record on the back of a break, he has winner written all over him.
So to recap, it's Kinross to win the 15:30 at Haydock Park on Saturday.
