Friday ITV Racing Tips: Best bets for York and Newbury

13.50 York - Daytona Lady

Speed is the essence in this 5f Listed contest for fillies and the majority of the runners have already demonstrated that by coming out and winning this term.
It's hard to weigh up the form on such limited evidence, but Richard Hannon's Miami Girl impressed when quickening up in the Dip then drawing away on the climb to the line on her racecourse debut at the Guineas meeting.

A 62,000gns purchase, she already looks a likely type for the Queen Mary and it's easy to see why she's favourite here, although she was plenty keen enough early at Newmarket and needs to relax more.

Given her shortish odds, we're inclined to take a chance on Sean Woods' Daytona Lady, a daughter of Bungle Inthejungle who looked the business when scoring on her debut at Chelmsford last month, powering away once hitting the front to score by an easy three lengths.
Her Newmarket stable has made a blistering start to the new campaign with 13 winners on the board already, with five those of those coming from just 11 runners in the last fortnight, while her pilot James Doyle is 4-6 for the yard this year.

14.05 Newbury - Ibiza Rocks

A tight-knit 6f handicap with all seven runners holding some sort of chance.
Charles Hills' Ibiza Rocks might be the answer having shaped okay on his seasonal debut over 7f at Newmarket last month, when racing prominently and weakening over a furlong out into fifth
He's done all his racing over that trip, winning a novice here at two, but he wouldn't be the first horse to get quicker with age as he strengthens up and having been gelded over the winter.

14.25 York - Perfect News

Grande Dame was a striking winner on her racecourse debut at Ascot last month, having not made the racecourse at two, and that she holds an entry in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes tells you she's highly regarded by John and Thady Gosden.

That Royal Ascot race is also on the agenda for William Haggas' Perfect News, who was Group 3 placed at two and showed she had trained on when finishing a keeping on fourth (yellow colours) in the Nell Gwyn Stakes won by subsequent 1,000 Guineas heroine Cachet on her seasonal reappearance.

On that evidence, she ought to relish the step up to a mile and, with her stable in flying form (13-35, 37%), she's taken to land this Listed contest at the expense of the Gosden filly, whose connections were inclined to step her up to 1m2f after her Ascot performance rather than stay at this mile.

15.00 York - Rogue Bear

Rogue Bear ran best of those drawn high when third in the Lincoln before running another solid race to fill the same spot in Newbury's Spring Cup, also run over a mile.

On breeding, he's well worth a try over this extra two and half furlongs and while he's gone up another 2lb, he's going to take some stopping if Jack Mitchell can get him settled, with his low draw helping in that respect.

Bellocio, a game winner of the Roseberry Handicap on his reappearance and highly tried last season in Group company, including the Dante at this meeting, is feared most despite having to shoulder top weight.

15.35 York - Search For A Song

The magnificent Stradivarius starts out on another campaign at the age of eight in a race he has won twice previously (2018 and 2019).
However, as he showed in his last two races last term, he's not the dominant force in the staying division he once was and taking the odds-on quotes about him on his first run back make zero appeal.
Dermot Weld's Search For A Song looks the best alternative in receipt of 6lb from the favourite and having looked as good as ever on her reappearance run 20 days ago, travelling into that race with real zest before getting tired late on.
As a dual Classic-winning mare, she'd be worth her weight in gold in the paddocks, so the decision to keep her training is a bold one, and she can go a long way towards justifying that decision by winning this major staying prize.

16.10 York - Wild Crusade

Charlie Appleby has a strong handy in this 1m4f handicap with New Comedy, who defied a penalty at Haydock last time to stay unbeaten, and Wild Crusade, who is also chasing a hat-trick after a couple of wins over this trip on the all-weather, representing him.

Preference is for the latter horse, the mount of James Doyle, as he's potentially a good deal better than his current mark of 88, with the stablemate he beat at Kempton in January having won twice since to earn an official mark of 93.
The selection had no trouble following up at the same track last month, when again strongest at the finish and giving the impression a stronger gallop would have suited, and that might be provided by his stablemate here.
