Sunday’s Doncaster tips in full:
14:05 (Doncaster) Good Earth
14:40 (Doncaster) Ten Pounds
15:15 (Doncaster) Great Generation
15:45 (Doncaster) English Spirit
16:15 (Doncaster) King’s Lynn
16:50 (Doncaster) Bowood
17:25 (Doncaster) Aramram
14:05 (Doncaster) Good Earth
Good Earth can continue his resurgence in the opening Pertemps Network Handicap.
Michael Herrington’s sprinter was rated in the low 90s this time last year, but a disappointing start to the current campaign saw him drop to a mark of 76 last month and he took full advantage, scoring comprehensively at Newmarket as a well backed favourite.
The victory clearly did his confidence good as he defied a 5lb rise to follow up at Sandown a week later and he looks well placed to complete his hat-trick on track where he has won before, despite another 3lb rise.
14:40 (Doncaster) Ten Pounds
The fast-improving Ten Pounds is difficult to oppose in the Betfred City Of Doncaster Handicap.
Harry Charlton’s charge has not looked back since finishing a promising fourth as a 50/1 shot for his Newbury debut, with comfortable novice wins at Newcastle and Leicester followed by a lucrative Racing League success on his handicap debut.
An opening mark of 90 seriously underestimated the son of Ten Sovereigns as he won with plenty in hand and a 9lb rise does not look insurmountable for a horse who could still have more to give.
15:15 (Doncaster) Great Generation
A return to seven furlongs can enable Great Generation to get back on the winning trail in the Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes.
Successful on two of her three juvenile starts for Marco Botti last season, the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor broke through at Group-race level when landing the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield over this specialist distance in May.
With opportunities over seven furlongs limited, she dropped back to six for the Summer Stakes at York in July and ran perfectly respectably, beaten just a length into fourth place and finishing only a short head behind last weekend’s Sprint Cup third Unequal Love.
Botti’s filly had her limitations exposed at Group One level in the Prix Maurice de Gheest last month, but dropping down in class over her favoured distance, she should make her presence felt.
15:45 (Doncaster) English Spirit
It will be interesting to see whether Grand National-winning jockey David Mullins can get a tune out of Heather Main’s English Spirit in the Graham Lee Vickers.Bet Leger Legends Classified Stakes.
The six-year-old has not got his head in front since January, but ran well in defeat when third at Epsom last time out and is 2lb below his last winning mark.
16:15 (Doncaster) King's Lynn
King's Lynn arrives at the back end of a strong season that is still winless so far, but has seen him come close a few times in top-level class 2 races.
Last time out saw him take on seven furlongs for the first time at Goodwood three weeks ago, when he was beaten into fourth, but was less than three lengths behind the winner in a good performance given the unsuitable trip.
Three weeks earlier, Andrew Balding’s seven-year-old had finished a close-up third, just a nose and a neck behind winner Willem Twee (a proven all-weather performer) and Marine Wave in a 39k race at Wolverhampton.
Before that, he had produced another great run to come 5th of 17 at Ascot, barely more than a length off the victorious Fair Wind, another highly-rated sprinter.
He is yet to land a handicap contest, but there’s a first time for everything and he comes here in good nick and with all the conditions in his favour, not least the booking of capable three-pound claimer William Carver.
16:50 (Doncaster) Bowood
Bowood maintains excellent winning form. Seeks a four-timer following a victory attempting a lower level 1m handicap at Nottingham and makes for plenty of appeal.
Can't Stop Now scored among easier handicap company at Ayr over 1m2f and has a progressive record this year, so should be on the shortlist.
17:25 (Doncaster) International Girl
This apprentice handicap represents a drop in class for International Girl, while she should also be better suited by the drop to her preferred six-furlong trip.
Richard Fahey’s six-year-old was last seen at York in a competitive Class 2 heritage handicap 24 days ago where she ran to a fair enough level, albeit consigned to a mid-division finish.
This race looks better suited to the strengths of this capable mare, who can be a different proposition here under Ethan Tindall, whose seven-pound claim looks very handy for an improving jockey on a proven performer.
International Girl can be expected to play a leading role here and to showcase some of her better form now back in the calmer waters of class 4 handicap company.
