Doncaster free racing tips: Five-furlong sprinters set to produce cracking Flying Childers Stakes

Doncaster Racecourse

Don’t blink or you might just miss this competitive sprint over the minimum trip, but hopefully our tipsters' selections will have time to make their presence known in the final furlong.

15:00 Doncaster: Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes (5 furlongs)

Magnum Force is a thrice raced winner who discarded his maiden tag tag at Cork a month ago, albeit still looking a little green round the edges.

With that in mind, Ger Lyons’ lively young colt should improve further (and rapidly, too) and has already done so three weeks ago when finishing an unlucky neck runner-up to Tropical Storm, who also runs here, and beat a couple of these rivals in the process.

That was progressive form in a step up to Group 2 level, and he did so despite suffering a poor run on that occasion, eventually finishing with a full tank, cruising up and looking he needed just another stride or two to take down the eventual winner.

Magnum Force has a good turn of foot and has really good ability, reacting well to what jockey asks of him. We surely have not seen the finished article, and although this is another competitive Group 2 contest, such ability must be taken seriously and he could well live up to his name here.

Of the others, Aesterius has three wins from five outings this summer and should be thereabouts again, while Tropical Storm looks a very enticing prospect at the price, especially with a red-hot Oisin Murphy at the helm.

However, with four places widely available, our nod of each-way approval goes in the direction of Archie Watson’s improving colt, Zayer, who is yet to finish outside the front two in three decent showings.

Not seen at all until mid-July, his first two efforts brought him within a length of the winners, and he made it third time lucky last time out at Ripon 17 days ago, when he made all and drew almost two lengths clear of the runner-up, with his other three rival stretched out in the middle distance.

He looks to have plenty of further progress in him, and with Hollie Doyle back in the saddle looking to resume their winning partnership, Zayer looks a tidy price to at least squeeze his way into the each-way frame.

Each-way punt: Zayer in the 15:00 at Doncaster
