Kempton Nap February 26: Big moment to come for Breakaway

Colin Tizzard

Kempton has put on a cracking Saturday card on Saturday February 26 and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge turns to the feature race for his nap.

It's still the one that many of us of a certain age know as the Racing Post Chase, but that was some time ago and the now Coral Trophy Handicap Chase (15.37) has seen some top drawer winners over the years.
The pick of those would arguably have been Desert Orchid back in his day, and I well recall standing in the commentary box next to the late, great Peter Bromley as he called home the precocious novice chaser Gloria Victis to beat the high class Marlborough by 10-lengths in the 2000 running of the race.
Anyway, enough of 'all our yesterdays', what's going to win the first prize of over £85,000 on Saturday? Well, for me it's a horse whom the best may still be to come.
Colin Tizzard-trained The Big Breakaway is still only a seven-year-old but on his return from wind surgery at Newbury a couple of weeks ago, he ran his best ever race over hurdles.
That was very encouraging in the contest of Saturday's race, where of course he returns to fences. He'd still be of interest had he not produced that, on account of his consistency anyway.
The Tizzard yard looks to have turned a corner and my selection is also tried here in a tongue-tie for the first time, while the cheekpieces he wore at Sandown in November also go back on.
At around 15/2 he looks a bet to me and you can, if you prefer, do so each-way although I have the feeling that he could prove up to winning this.
So, it's The Big Breakaway in the 15.37 at Kempton on Saturday. Good luck!
