Chelmsford free racing tip: Quick turnaround bodes well for consistent performer

A dozen capable milers go to post for a competitive-looking handicap that is expected to be dominated by early market leaders, Bold Suitor and Werenotreallyhere, either of whom could be sent off as favourite.

Bold Suitor won over this course and distance nine days ago, but our nod goes to Werenotreallyhere, who could (and possibly should) have enjoyed more than his solitary victory over this trip at Lingfield  in early August.

That success ended a sequence of close-but-no-cigar near misses, having come up agonisingly short as runner-up by half a length and a neck in two of his previous two outings.

Daniel Steele’s four-year-old proved his consistency again as recently as five days ago, when finished a good second over an extended mile at Wolverhampton, having taken the lead at the furlong pole, only to be reeled in by a fast-finishing outsider under a lower weight. 

He races off the same mark here, and the quick turnaround suggests connections have high hopes of a bounceback performance,  so he surely must merit serious consideration in the capable hands of Daniel Muscutt.
