KLM Open tips: Bernd Wiesberger ready to convert recent form, Darius van Driel gives locals hope
After conceding centre stage to the US Open last weekend, the DP World Tour resumes with the KLM Dutch Open, where a strong field gives golf pundit Martin Colwell plenty of food for thought.
KLM Dutch Open key stats:
- When: June 20 - 23 2024
- Where: The International, Amsterdam, Netherlands
- How long: 6,914 yards - par 71
- What to expect: Exposed, wide, undulating fairways, rough can be long and thick, scrambling skills key
- Who won last year: Pablo Larrazabal (-13)
Matt Wallace is favourite this week on his return from playing on the USPGA tour, where he has been performing at a higher level than we find this week in the Netherlands. When this tournament was last played at this course in 2019, Wallace finished third.
We then have a clutch of golfers at odds of 16/1, where Tom McKibbin continues to be favoured by the oddsmakers despite not getting across the line in recent months. The Northern Irishman is undoubtedly talented, but that needs to be converted into a win on tour.
Sebastian Soderberg blew an eight-stroke lead last time out in Sweden at the Scandinavian Mixed. A habitual place finisher in recent months, but can he win again after that disaster?
Rasmus Hojgaard has been playing well generally, but continues to be blighted by a poor round in each tournament he has played.
Laurie Canter and Bernd Wiesberger are both finding their feet on the DP World Tour following their ventures with LIV Golf, with the former already one step ahead after landing the European Open three weeks ago.
Wiesberger finished tied for second, just a couple of shots behind Canter in Germany, and has only missed one cut all season.
The Austrian had finished just off the pace but in the top 25 in his previous three starts and is trending like a future winner, and should find the International course suited to his game.
Suggested bet (1): Bernd Wiesberger each-way in the KLM Dutch Open
Others to watch:
- Niklas Norgaard Moller (33/1) - Let us down last time with a terrible first round in the Scandinavian Mixed, but was in good form before that, and his drifting odds could be good value.
- Johannes Veerman (33/1) - Three top tens in his last five starts, he stands a good chance here if his putter can match the rest of his game.
- Frederic Lacroix (45/1) - His game is full of French flair which could be useful around here, has been in contention several times this season and his odds look bigger than they should be, considering his consistent form
- Darius Van Driel (40/1) - Has tasted DP World Tour success at the Kenya Open, and some other decent performances suggest he could be a dark horse to up his game in front of home support.
Suggested bet (2): Darius Van Driel each-way in the KLM Dutch Open
Suggested bet summary:
- Bernd Wiesberger (16/1) - 2.5 points each-way
- Darius Van Driel (70/1) - 1 point each-way
