Genesis Scottish Open tips: Course to suit Viktor Hovland, Robert MacIntyre can bounce back at home

The USPGA and DP World Tour join forces this weekend for the Genesis Scottish Open, and Tipstrr golf aficionado Martin Colwell expects golf’s big names to produce a thrilling tournament.

The prequel to next week's Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, Scotland's version takes place at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, with eight of the world's current top ten competing for the $9million purse. 

The course is a par 70, 7,237 yards in length and its links-like style is an exposed layout with deep bunkering, thick rough and gorse.
At around 7/1 Scottie Scheffler starts as favourite (when does he not?!), but I do not really see this type of golf course suiting the world number one, who probably sees this tournament as an acclimatisation warm-up for next week.
Rory McIlroy is next best at 8/1. The popular Northern Irsihman does not have a great course record here and he will be likely to try a few things in preparation for The Open Championship. Jon Rahm, the third of the big three, has chosen to miss this one.

Just behind those guys in the market is Victor Hovland, who does like linksy, tree-lined courses.

Not only does he have previous form on them, but would have grown up on them back in Norway.

Last time out winner Rickie Fowler is 18/1 and has form on this course, and so appears to be a much more favourable pick here than his two compatriots, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

Of the two I prefer Schauffele, but I do not like supporting defending champions as they rarely deliver, while Cantlay always boasts excellent performance metrics, but can not seem to buy a win lately.
There's a veritable gaggle of top golfers at 22/1, of whom Matt Fitzpatrick would probably prefer a tougher wind-affected test, but that does not appear to be in the forecast.
This course looks right up the street of Ryan Fox, who has been a previous challenger in the Open Championship, can play in tough conditions and hits the ball a long way.
Tyrrell Hatton is a good links golfer and must be in contention this week if he can putt well. Jordan Spieth is a former Open Championship winner and can play Scottish courses, but again, I see this as a tune up for next week, and he is unlikely to peak here.

Fox has been off for a couple of weeks due to the death of his father-in-law and the birth of another child, but if his head and his game are in good order, then he can show up at a nice 66/1.

Robert Macintyre looked set up for the win going into the final back-nine at the Made in Himmerland last week, but he dropped five strokes and ended two off the winning score.
Back home in Scotland, he should enjoy his surroundings at this course. At 100/1 he will be good value if he can navigate round one safely and put last week's last-day disappointment behind him.
