Alfred Dunhill Championship tips: German duo Matti Schmid and Freddy Schott can provide value
Golf tipster Martin Colwell is looking for some big-priced names to bring home the loot in the penultimate tournament of 2024 in South Africa.
The Leopard Creek Country Club, a par 72 and 7,249 yards in length course near Malelane hosts the tournament and is known as a relatively tough test and not a birdie blitz space.
LIV golfer Dean Burmester has won the past two tournaments on the tour, both in South Africa, and goes off the 7/1 favourite this week.
This is a tougher test than the past two weeks but he is obviously showing his class. Last week he only made the cut by one stroke, but came through the field to win comfortably.
And then we have a batch of South African golfers in the betting.
Rather surprisingly Louis Oosthuizen is only 14/1. Louis has struggled on the LIV Golf tour, but is now back home where he is much revered.
Also on 14/1 is Christian Bezuidenhout, who has not had the best year but the bookmakers are obviously scared of him finding some form here.
Brandon Grace is 16/1. I thought that he had a good chance last week but did not show. He knows this course well and so may found it more to his liking.
Further home country golfers on 16/1 are Thriston Lawrence and Eric Van Rooyen.
Lawrence has had chances the past two weeks but has not delivered. EVR won a weakened field tournament in recent months on the USPGA Tour but is very inconsistent, but likely has more ability than his countryman.
Other golfers to consider
Zander Lombards has been in decent form the past two weeks. He does struggle to win though. 25/1 is Ok each-way.
Dan Bradbury let us down last week, but he played well the week before and can be grabbed at 28/1.
Charl Schwartzel was 40/1 last week but is now 28/1 on a course he knows very well. Schwartzel was in solid form last week but I struggle to see him winning this week.
Another golfer to let us down last week was German Mattu Schmid.
In the places for the first three rounds, he blew out last Sunday. An obvious talent it may be the right thing to do to give him another chance this week at 28/1.
Looking further down the betting – Jeff Winther can place on a going week. The Austrian can blow hot and cold but there are worse 50/1 selections in this field.
Dylan Frittelli can be found at 100/1 in places. A two-time winner on tour and a top twenty finisher last week. And…two top twelve finishes on this course.
Freddie Schott is another promising young German golfer. After a very average week last time out he has dropped in the betting to 125/1.
A definite talent who can show up on the leaderboard.
