Tommy Fleetwood eager to carry positive Ryder Cup momentum into Alfred Dunhill Championship

Europe's Tommy Fleetwood at Ryder Cup

Tommy Fleetwood continues to ride the wave of Europe's Ryder Cup victory in Rome and hopes to harness that momentum for a successful campaign in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Fleetwood was a key part of Europe's victory over USA last week, securing three points including the one which clinched the trophy.

The 32-year-old admits the buzz has still not worn off as he prepares to tee it up again at Carnoustie on Thursday.

He said: "I think it still feels a bit surreal, really.

"I think everybody, like the team, has still been messaging a lot and everybody is still very much enjoying watching the highlights back. Yeah, it's a strange feeling when you think about it, I can't believe the week's over.

"Just so happy that it finished the way it did and we achieved what we went there to do all together.

"The Sunday night of the Ryder Cup is such a cool and special night. I think when you get to celebrate with your team-mates and your family and the ones that have been there to support you, it's just a very special night.

"It's definitely the highlight right now. I was relieved, I'm still relieved right now that we managed to do it."

Fleetwood is chasing his first tournament win of the year in an event which sees the pros play alongside amateurs including England's leading wicket-takers James Anderson and Stuart Broad and US actress Kathryn Newton.

The tournament is also split across three courses along the east coast of Scotland, with Fleetwood playing his second round at Kingsbarns before heading to the Old Course at St Andrews.

Fleetwood admits he has pictured the moment of lifting the trophy on the famous Swilcan Bridge.

He added: "Yeah, I'm excited. It's always an event that I've enjoyed.

"My dad is here this week. He has always been here to watch and I think this might be my 13th Dunhill Links Championship, so I think it's the event I've probably played the most on the European Tour.

"It's an event that I've genuinely always really, really wanted to win and I always, still, kind of picture myself with the trophy on the Swilcan Bridge and it's just not happened yet.

"I'm looking forward to playing today, practicing and then getting started and I'll absolutely be giving it my all this week for sure."
