Sunday play abandoned at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, event extends to Monday
Play at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland was abandoned once again as heavy rain caused waterlogged courses.
It was the second day in a row that no play was possible at the DP World Tour event held across Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and St Andrews.
The third round has now been pushed back to Monday and will be the final round.
England’s Matt Fitzpatrick holds a one-shot lead on 13 under par ahead of Scot Grant Forrest and Spaniard Nacho Elvira, with English pair Marcus Armitage and Matthew Southgate two shots further back.
In the pro-am, Fitzpatrick is in second place with mum Susan, a shot behind Julien Guerrier and Stephane Connery.
"We always have a number of contingencies in the case of adverse weather conditions, and on this occasion, the decision has been made alongside the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Committee to continue the tournament into Monday," said Tournament Director Mikael Eriksson.
"We endeavour to play 72 holes if possible, and taking into consideration all factors, a Monday finished was deemed to be the preferred outcome.
"This will preserve the format of the tournament, with all competitors having the opportunity to play one round over each course, and the final round of both the Individual and Team events taking place at the Old Course after the third round cut."
