Stewart Cink overcomes travel woes with loyalty to sponsor at The Open

Stewart Cink

Former champion Stewart Cink chose not to implicate his sponsor when he disclosed experiencing "travel difficulties" on his way to this week's Open at Royal Liverpool.

Former champion Stewart Cink refused to drop his sponsor in it after revealing he had "travel difficulties" en route to this week's Open at Royal Liverpool.
Cink, who famously pipped Tom Watson to win the Claret Jug in 2009, only arrived in the UK on Tuesday after his initial flight was cancelled.
The 50-year-old brushed off any jetlag to shoot a three-under-par opening-round 68 on Thursday and later, with the logo of airline Delta clearly visible on his shirt, spoke about his journey.
Asked if arriving with less than 48 hours to prepare was normal, he said: "No, it's not. We had some travel difficulties and, because of what is right there on my shirt, I'm not going to tell you what happened.
"Our flight Sunday night got cancelled so we had to reroute, and the best we could do was fly 24 hours later from Atlanta.
"We had to get out there and figure out the golf course, make a game plan. We're still trying to get there but, when the gun goes off and you start in the tournament, you've got that adrenaline, and adrenaline does wonders for your jetlag."
