Scottie Scheffler admits he was unaware that he has a chance to make history at the Open
World number one Scottie Scheffler has the chance to emulate the great Arnold Palmer at the Open this week but the American was blissfully unaware of his potential place in history.
The 28-year-old has won six of the 15 events he has taken part in this year — including victory at the Masters — and finished in the top 10 on 13 occasions.
Palmer is the last player, in 1962, to win six events before July 1 and as Masters champion he won his seventh title at Troon — a feat Scheffler could match
However, when the subject was raised in his pre-tournament press conference the double Masters champion admitted he was unaware of the potential landmark.
"I love the history of the game and there's certain things that I know and certain things that I don't," he said.
"That was something that, for some reason, I just never stumbled across so I had no idea that that was a thing.
"I try to stay off the internet as much as possible. When I'm at home I like to try to be at home and be present."
